Humankind as a Threat to Biodiversity:

One of the best articles written in the last few months is "Man's Domestication of Earth threatens the future of Life..." by Shahid Naeem available in the latest issue of Miller-McCune. Embedded in the Title of this posting is the link to this article.
While environmental activists have largely espoused relevant points regarding resource consumption, pollution, sustainability, etc., the most essential point is that we are over-populating and destroying the key threads in the tapestry of our biosphere: biodiversity and balance of species habitation on our world. The greatest single threat to humanity, habitability of our planet, and our future quality of life is over population. In short, human irresponsibility, over procreation, overt mindless selfishness, and excessive sensory indulgence are destroying our world.
The greatest component of the ongoing sustainability of life on our planet is the diversity of species, both flora and fauna. Specifically plant species, micro-organisms, oceanic species etc, etc. Our great short-sighted crime against our planet doesn't just extend to having too many people, it encompasses the mindless ways in which we domesticate species, extinguish others, and transform swaths of territory into agri-mono-cultures for our sustenance.
The diversity of the matrix of life on our planet requires that we find and maintain a balance with our environs that honors the diversity of species on our earth. And our ability to survive, as a species, and for our biosphere, depends on that balance.
